Latvia has signed a new contract with General Dynamics European Land Systems – Santa Bárbara Sistemas (GDELS‑SBS) for the acquisition of 42 additional ASCOD infantry fighting vehicles, with a total value of approximately €387 million.

This order doubles the initial request, bringing the total number of ASCOD vehicles ordered by the country to 84 units. The delivery of the first units from this second phase is scheduled for 2027.

A key highlight of the agreement is that up to 30% of manufacturing will be carried out by Latvian companies, strengthening the local industry and enhancing technology transfer.

This investment in ASCOD armored vehicles reinforces the modernization of the Latvian Armed Forces, expanding their mechanized capabilities with NATO STANAG 4569 Level 4 systems, automatic cannons, anti-tank weapons, and battlefield situational awareness technology.

Moreover, national industrial involvement in the project represents a significant boost to Latvia’s economy, positioning the country as a relevant partner in Europe’s defense production chain.
